Language Status: 7 (Shifting).
Classification: Japonic, Ryukyuan, Amami-Okinawan, Northern Amami-Okinawan
Dialects: Kametsu. Inherent intelligibility generally impossible, or very difficult, with Ryukyuan languages and Japanese [jpn].
Language Use: Adults only. Younger generation has passive understanding but cannot speak it (Okamura 2010). Shifting to Japanese [jpn].
