Location:: California: near Santa Barbara.
Language Status: 9 (Dormant).
Classification: Chumashan
Dialects: None known. Not inherently intelligible with other Chumash varieties.
Language Use: Shifted to English [eng].
Language Development: Although only Ineseño [inz] descendants are organized as a recognized tribe, there is interest among all Chumash descendants in restoring their traditional culture and language. Chumash Living Language Revitalization Project established in 1999 (Golla 2007).
