Location:: British Columbia, Vancouver Island, and coast north of Powell river.
Language Status: 8a (Moribund). Language of recognized indigenous peoples: Homalco, K’ómoks, Klahoose, Tla’amin.
Classification: Salish, Central Salish
Dialects: Island Comox (Salhulhtxw), Mainland Comox (Homalco, Klahoose, Sliammon, Éy7á7juuthem). All use the mainland dialect. Island Comox dialect has no remaining L1 speakers (Mithun 1999).
Language Use: Older adults only. Shifted to English [eng].
Language Development: Grammar. Community-based language projects (Golla 2007).
