Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Atlantic, Northern, Eastern Senegal-Guinea, Banyun
Gujaaxet, Gunyamoolo. Dialects mutually intelligible. Reportedly similar to Kobiana [kcj] and Kasanga [ccj] of Guinea-Bissau. More closely related to Tenda languages of eastern Senegal than to neighboring Diola-Fogny [dyo] and Balanta [bjt]. Gunyuño [bab] in Guinea-Bissau is distinct.
All also use Mandinka [mnk]. Many also use French [fra], as the language of education and government (Diouf et al 2017). Some also use Wolof [wol], as the language of commerce and interethnic communication (Sarr and Thiaw 2012).
