Location:: Widespread: Al-Minya governorate and south to Sudan border; Red Sea area; Cairo area.
Language Status: 6a* (Vigorous).
Classification: Afro-Asiatic, Semitic, Central, South, Arabic
Dialects: Middle Egypt Arabic, Upper Egypt Arabic. Most similar to Hijazi Spoken Arabic [acw]. Reportedly also similar to Sudanese Spoken Arabic [apd], especially in the south, but heavily influenced by Cairene Arabic (Cairo speech). A member of macrolanguage Arabic [ara].
Language Use: Also use Egyptian Spoken Arabic [arz], particularly Cairene dialect, some speakers as L2. Also use Sudanese Spoken Arabic [apd], but do not prefer it. Used as L2 by Mattokki [xnz], Nobiin [fia].
